Avatars are the little picture that appear next to the things you've written on NeoBoards or GuildMessages or whatever.
Maybe it will express your personality in a way, and NeoFriends will associate this little picture with you after a while.
If you've never changed your avatar it's a yellow starter-avvie (it's called "default"). These are quite boring, and a lot of people get annoyed when they see one on the boards (don't ask me why!)

Ok, this is where I'm planning to put up an avatar site. It probably won't have every avatar there is, but there will come more after a while.
I just have to work with it, and I can assure you I don't have the best time.
